The Daily Brace is a weekday feature that spotlights two links to other online content. It is curated by multiple people, on The Brace Phoenix team, each with their own interests and reading/viewing habits. Check in every weekday to get a quick dose of soccer content before work, at lunch, or whenever.
Today’s brace lights up the board with a great cause: Street Football World, a global charity that supports soccer charities around the world. Just before the kickoff of the Premier League, Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata wrote an impassioned article in The Players’ Tribune entitled A Common Goal launching his #commongoal campaign to enjoin players to donate 1% of their salaries to this cause and to encourage fans to get behind this goal to grow soccer around the world.
Yesterday, Bayern Munich defender and German World Cup champion, Mats Hummels, joined Mata in pledging 1% of his salary to the cause as covered by Sports Illustrated Planet Futbol’s Avi Creditor in Mats Hummels Joins Mata in Pledging 1% of Salary to Charity.
Street Football World is doing great things globally that transcend the soccer community. Check them out at streetfootballworld.org and if you wish to join the #commongoalorg team visit http://www.streetfootballworld.org/donate-now and help grow soccer around the world.
